Cafeteria open again

The Capitol cafeteria is back in business. The eatery became a statewide punch line after it was shut down in mid-December following a Department of Agriculture inspection that found, among other things, a “severe rodent infestation,” mold accumulation and pink slime in the ice machine.

The cafeteria reopened at 7:30 this morning. A quick visit around 11:30 found a just a handful of customers – though  lunch traffic typically doesn’t pick up until around 12:30. Workers are giving away free chocolate chip cookies  as a peace offering, and I’m told the cafeteria had free coffee this morning.

Department of General Services spokesman Ed Myslewicz says Secretary James Creedon and other DGS employees will eat lunch at the cafeteria today to show their support and confidence in the facility.
