Budget hearing roundup

This year’s House budget hearings have finished, and the Senate is nearly done, too. Lest you think this has become an all-Sestak/Specter blog, here are my budget reports from the past few days:

Education Secretary Gerald Zahorchak is defending a proposed 444 million dollar budget increase for his department as an investment in Pennsylvania’s economy.

With table games set to come online this summer, Governor Rendell is seeking a ten percent spending increase for Pennsylvania’s Gaming Control Board.

Governor Rendell’s budget would trim Department of Environmental Protection spending by 2.4 percent, a year after the agency suffered through major budget cuts.

DEP Secretary John Hanger says even with reduced spending levels, his department is still accomplishing its mission.
