Budgetmania: AM update

Legislative leaders held a budget meeting this morning, and are slated to sit down again today at three o’clock.

We didn’t get much from the lawmakers as they left Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi’s third floor office around ten o’clock. “We’ve made some progress,” said House Majority Leader Todd Eachus. “We’re evaluating additional gap-closing options to try and figure it out.”

Both Eachus and Senate President Pro Tem Joe Scarnati insist reaching a deal before June 30th is a sincere motivating factor this year. “I think everyone’s sensitive to [the deadline],” said Scarnati. “The goal is to get this done by June 30th and restore a little bit of credibility back in the building.”

Quote of the morning: when a reporter asked about today’s 3 AM meeting, Scarnati corrected him, saying the next session is scheduled for 3 in the AFTERNOON. “We turn into werewolves and vampires after 11,” Scarnati explained.
